Steering Committee Members
Tunde Otto-Harris - Co-ordinator
As a member of TEAC since 1996, and the chair of the WPEC steering committee since 2001, I have applied my scientific knowledge to helping local citizens acquire an understanding for how a healthy economy and a healthy society depend on a healthy environment! WPEC demonstrates ecosystems thinking as it is an example of conservation and restoration in valley lands and degraded locations. I hope that adults and children increase their ecological awareness because of the park.
Ruth Kuchinad - Outgoing co-ordinator
After teaching for more than 24 years in Peel Region and serving on TEAC (Town Environmental Advisory Committee) since 1995, I am currently the Coordinator for Willow Park Ecology Centre. During my tenure on the Willow Park Steering Committee, I oversaw the initial implementation of the Centre's Master Plan and have successfully raised funds through grants and some donations. My most enjoyable experience is the team-building aspect of growing our Ecology Centre and the contribution Willow Park is making to environmental awareness in Halton Hills.
Other Members of the Steering Committee
Brian Thomas
As a member of the Rotary Club of Georgetown, I became involved with WPEC as the Trillium grant manager. I now enjoy many aspects of my involvement with WPEC. Especially the hands-on work in the park, such things as the planting of young shrubs and trees, trying to win battles with nature over which plants should be there and which should leave. Trying to eradicate non-native and invasive species is a real battle. Working with a wonderful group of keen and knowledgeable people and seeing our dreams become reality is the real reward for being involved.
Nikki Hansen
I joined the WPEC steering committee to be the liason with the Halton/North Peel Naturalist Club. As a graphic designer I enjoy working on projects for the park that teach people about ecology and nature interpretation. I'm amazed at what's been done with a little piece of land. The park has so much to offer, particularly for outdoor education.
David Rose
As a teacher of construction technology and wood manufacturing at Georgetown District High School, I've involved my students in building projects for the park. We've built the kiosk, the benches throughout the park, various signs and other elements. I volunteer for the park because I want to help create a world where birds sing and some trees grow large.
