Kids Nature Camp
Willow Park began a summer camp for kids in 2002. It was a great hit. Through the Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department, Willow Park is again able to offer a nature camp for elementary age kids, where they get exercise and education. |

Willow Park Summer Camp 2006!
Willow Park staff and volunteers are already busy planning summer camps for 2006. Demand for spaces in camp sessions was so great in 2005 that we added a whole extra week, for a total of four. Spaces were filled almost as soon as the Town released its Spring/Summer Activity Guide. If you know a young person anxious for a week of fun, exciting outdoor adventures, sign them up before its too late! Also, if you know a teen eager to gain some hands-on volunteer experience, Willow Park summer camps may be able to provide an opportunity for them to help out.
Eco-Quest camp will help young environmentalists explore habitats, endangered species and organic gardening. Our schedule promises to be jam packed with hands-on experiences. Campers will conduct surveys of field and forest, river and pond. We'll lend a hand improving Willow Park's habitats with projects like turtle nesting areas and a native tree nursery. The organic gardens and compost areas will provide opportunities for healthy activities, along with some tempting tastes. Of course, we'd never forget to have plenty of great games, challenges, role-playing, and time to create some wonderful keepsakes from re-used materials.
We had so much fun with our history themed camp last summer we decided to try some more at Blast from the Past camp. Kids will have more chances to try native and pioneer activities, as well as learn skills from the Victorian era, 1950s and 1970s. We'll explore how people got around, from canoes and wagons to airplanes and rocket ships. Lots of active games from the past will be interspersed with creating toys and handicrafts to amuse and amaze everyone. Campers will experiment with cooking traditional food items as well. It's almost like stepping into a time machine!

Willow Park Summer Camp 2003 Review
Our 2003 Summer Camp program took place in July and August 2003, with the younger campers age 5 - 7 attending the Flying Machines camp July 7-11. We had a full camp, with 15 children. Two thirds of the campers were 5 years or less and parents appreciated the full day camp as the Town does not offer anything else that is full day for this age.
Besides learning about birds, bats, butterflies and bees, the children took a trip to Mountsberg. There they learned about birds of prey, enjoyed the tour of the birds and saw birds of prey flying overhead.
Comments from the parents were:
"The leaders were great with the kids and always kept the parents informed of what was going on each day",
"a good program in an intimate setting".
The August program, Water Works, took place August 11-15 and was oriented toward children age 8 - 10 inclusive. They learned how water helps us work, play and create. These campers spent a day at Everdale Farm, where they were interviewed by a crew from the Outdoor Life Network. They enjoyed feeding the animals, seeing the turtles and participating in the harvesting activities.
We expect to offer two themes for the camps in 2004: Tiny Marvels, about insect, spiders, flowers, seeds, leaves, etc and "Earthworks", all about rocks, minerals, soils, working with clay and landforms. Look for our ad in the Town's 2004 Spring and Summer Community Guide.

Emma Barnes and Steven Murdock, both 5, peered through the "binoculars' they made in their crafts exercise as the two learned about bats, bugs, birds and butterflies, as part of the Nature's Flying Machines Camp.
